ISO 9001 defines the requirements for quality management systems – although at first glance, quality management and information security management do not have much in common, the fact is that about 25% of the ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 requirements are the same: document control, internal audit, management review, corrective actions, setting the objectives, and managing competences.

This guidance can be supplemented by ISO 18091:2014, which provides guidelines on the implementation of ISO 9001 for local government sectors, regardless of their type, size or service provided. These guidelines do not, however, add, change or modify the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.


This ISO guidance gives the requirements for a quality management system, which can be use to successfully manage R&D projects, improve performance and manage quality in all areas. This is also reference in the FSR Code of Conduct as organisations suitable to provide external audit services for policing forensics must be adhere to this standard.
